What It Means To Be Free
Being free means one has rights, but it also means one has responsibilities. Being free means one has the right to think ones own thoughts, but it also means others have the right to their thoughts as well. Freedom does not give one the power to force others to live the way one thinks is best, It gives one the right to live has one sees fit, not the way others think is best. Being free means one has the right to speak out, and fight to remain free. It also means one has the responsibility to speak out, and fight whenever someone else's freedom is in danger of being lost. Freedom can endure only when all who know it understand it must be for everyone, and that it is everyone's responsibility to make sure it is taken from no one.

A Time For Thought
In light of the events of 9/11/2001 our government, and its agencies are moving to expand their powers over its citizens. They may tell you that the new powers they have granted themselves only apply to non citizens of the U. S., but as with most laws if you read them carefully you find they say things that allow then to be used for far more than those who wrote them would have you believe. I am not saying that those who wrote them plan to use them unwisely, or unfairly, but one must remember that those who wrote them will not be in power all that long, and the next to take their places may not see it as they do. It is a time to be ever watchful. There is little sense in the idea that giving up some of our rights will somehow help to keep us free. W. L. Kite
While we all feel the lost of so many of our fellow countrymen, and grieve for those who have suffered a lost at the hands of the terrorist. We must not allow our fear, anger, and sorrow to cloud our judgment where our rights, and freedoms are concerned. If we let that happen then the terrorist will have won over us, for to take our rights, and freedom from us is their goal. They consider not only the immediate effect of their attacks, the loss of life, the damage to property, and the fear they cause, but they consider the long range effect as well. If through their attacks they can force us to place armed guards on our streets, and accept something less than the right to personal privacy, and the freedom of travel that we have known for so long, then they will have struck a powerful blow against us, for we will find yourselves living much like they live in their own homelands.
The underlined thoughts below should be given careful consideration now more than ever.
Freedom
is a mix of ideas, principles, and trust between the governed, and their
government. If any of these things are lost we are all less free than we
were
W.
L. Kite
Those who would save us from terrorist by conducting secret trials behind closed doors, should be feared as much as the terrorist. W. L. Kite
No one has more to lose than one who is free. W. L. Kite
Those who say that freedom is over rated, are those who have known nothing but freedom. W. L. Kite
It took a revolution to gain our freedom, and one day it may take another to keep it. W. L. Kite
Perhaps if those who make the rules had to live by them like the rest of us, we might all have more freedom than we do! W. L. Kite
Those who dissent are true to their beliefs, those who deceive are traitors to all.
No one ever becomes safer by giving up their rights. W. L. Kite
Do you really believe that others know what is best for you and your loved ones?W. L. Kite
The trouble with letting someone else take care of you, is that the care you get is up to them. W. L. Kite
Will those who tell you that you do not need the right to defend yourself, be there when you are attacked? W. L. Kite
Good men, and women have fought, and died so that you might be free, the least you can do is fight to remain free. W. L. Kite
The founders of this great nation felt they owed future generations the right to be free. Do we not owe them, and the generations yet unborn the commitment to remain free? W. L. Kite
The difference between one who is free, and one who is not, may be hard to see at first. Perhaps that is because it is far more than the eyes can take in at one time. W. L. Kite
Free people know the joy of believing what they want to believe, those who are not free feel the pain of being told what to believe. W. L. Kite
The only thing sadder than one who is not free, is one who once was free, but is no longer. W. L. Kite
Beware of those who would tell you what is best for you. For they are most likely doing what is best for them at the time. W. L. Kite
We must teach the young what freedom really means, for if we do that job well, they will never let anyone take it from them. W. L. Kite
If you were not free you would not have the right to give up your freedom, think about that long, and hard before you cast a vote to give up any rights you have now. W. L. Kite
Those who do good for the sake of their fellow men need no reward for their work, for they have already found their reward. Those who do good for the sake of personal gain need to be rewarded by being shown for what they are.
With freedom comes responsibility, and the first responsibility of the free is to remain free. W. L. Kite
Unless knowledge is passed on to the young it is lost. A people can forget who they are, and a nation can lose sight of what it once was. W. L. Kite
To fight
and maybe die for your freedom is noble but
to
accept shackles over death is cowardly. L. D.

Those that advocate giving up a small part of your freedoms for the greater good are ignorant of the true meaning of freedom. L. D. Millsap

Old
Glory
I am
the flag of the United States of America.
My
name is Old Glory. I fly atop the world's tallest buildings.
I
stand watch in America's halls of justice.
I
fly majestically over institutions of learning.
I
stand guard with power in the world.
Look up and see me.
I stand
for peace, honor, truth and justice.
I
stand for freedom. I am confident. I am arrogant. I am
proud.
When
I am flown with my fellow banners,
my
head is a little higher, my colors a little truer.
I bow
to no one!
I
am recognized all over the world.
I
am worshiped ,I am saluted.
I am
loved , I am revered.
I am
respected , and I am feared.
I have
fought in every battle of every war for more then 200 years.
I
was flown at Valley Forge, Gettysburg, Shiloh and Appomattox.
I was
there at San Juan Hill, the trenches of France,
in
the Argon Forest, Anzio, Rome and the beaches of Normandy, Guam.
Okinawa,
Korea and KheSan, Saigon, Vietnam,
I was
there. I led my troops, I was dirty, battle worn and tired,
but
my soldiers cheered me and I was proud.
I have
been burned, torn and trampled on the streets of
countries
I have helped set free. It does not hurt, for I am invincible.
I have
been soiled upon, burned, torn and trampled on the streets of my country.
And when it's by those whom I've
served
in battle - it hurts.
But
I shall overcome - for I am strong.
I have
slipped the bonds of Earth and stood watch over the uncharted frontiers
of space from my vantage point on the moon.
I
have borne silent witness to all of America's finest hours.
But
my finest hours are yet to come.
When
I am torn into strips and used as bandages for my
wounded
comrades on the battlefield, When I am flown at
half-mast
to honor my soldiers, or when I lie in the trembling arms of a grieving
parent at the grave of their fallen son or daughter, I am proud.

~~"That
Ragged Old Flag"~~
I walked
through a county courthouse square
On
a park bench, an old man was sittin there.
I said,
"Your court house is kinda run down,
He
said, "No, it will do for our little town".
I said
"your old flag pole kinda leaned a little bit
And
that's a ragged old flag you got hanging on it".
He
said "have a seat", so I sat down,
He
said, "is this your first visit to our little town"
I said,
"I think it is"
He
said "I don't like to brag, but we're kinda proud of
"That
Ragged Old Flag"
"You
see, we got a little hole in that flag there,
When
Washington took it across the Delaware.
It
got powder burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat
watching it, writing "Oh Say Can You See"
It
got a rip in New Orleans, with Packingham & Jackson tugging at its
seams.
It
almost fell at the Alamo beside the Texas flag,
But
she waved on tho.
It got
cut with a sword in Chancellorsville,
Got
cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There
was Robert E. Lee and Beauregard and Bragg,
And
the south wind blew hard on
"That
Ragged Old Flag"
On Flanders
Field in World War I,
She
took a bad hit from a Bertha Gun,
She
turned blood red in World War II
She
hung limp and low by the time that one was through,
She
was in Korea, Vietnam,
She
went where she was sent
By
her Uncle Sam.
The
Native Americans, The Black, Yellow and White
All
shed red blood for the Stars and Stripes.
And
here in her own good land,
She's
been abused, burned, dishonored, denied and refused,
And
the very government for which she stands
Has
been scandalized throughout out the land.
And
she's getting thread bare, and she's wearing kinda thin,
But
she's in pretty good shape, for the shape she's in.
Cause
she's been through the fire before
And
she can take a whole lot more.
So
we raise her up every morning
And
we bring her down slow every night,
We
don't let her touch the ground,
And
we fold her up right.
On second
thought
I
do like to brag
Cause
I'm mighty proud of

Ragged Old Flag"

Freedom Is Alive, And Well
Those
evil Sons of Satan may think
That
they have struck a mighty blow
But
there is much about freedom
That
their kind seem not to know
They
have killed many of our countrymen
They
have scarred our cities, and our land
But
now, and for all of time
Our
flag of freedom shall always stand
For
freedom is our way of life
That
is something they can never destroy my friend
For
this dream of freedom born so long ago
Is
something freedom's children shall defend
For
we have paid in blood before
For
the freedom that we know
As
a free people we stand ready now
To
pay whatever price it takes to keep it so
To the
terrorist cowards who kill the innocent we say
We
will find you, and send you straight to hell
Once
you are dead, and long gone from this Earth
Freedom
will be still alive, and well

The Heroes Of Flight 93
Among
our nations heroes
These
forever shall be dear to me
These
brave sons of freedom
The
heroes of flight 93
Knowing
that their fate was sealed
That
their lives were soon to end
They
chose to go down fighting
Their
fellow countryman to defend
They
willingly gave their lives
All
they had to give
No
greater deed can one do
Than
die, that others may yet live
To the
loved ones they leave behind
My
heart of all makes this plea
For
all time let us not forget
The
heroes of flight 93

- Wounded
Knee or Kent State- (Take Your Pick)
On
campus green four students fell
Neath
freedom’s sky they loved so well,
Too
young, too young, and not yet bent
To
serve a bumbling government..
There
lives are gone, their voices stilled
Why,
O’God, should they be killed?
Not
in some land across wide sea
But
here, in this land of liberty.
This
land once proud, now so corrupt
Has
snuffed these flames and so abrupt,
Do
not dissent our leaders say,
Do
not dissent or you will pay.
Dissent,
you shall, dissent you must
For
it is your God given trust,
Speak,
and may your voice be heard
Speak,
and let your every word
Be
for justice, hope and truth
You,
our last hope, our life, our youth,
Those
four who fell, do not forget
To
them this nation owes a debt,
It
cannot pay, except through you,
Speak
& let your voice ring true
Speak,
youth, our last hope is you.
